Resources: Buyer/Planner
When it comes to finding resources, a good buyer/planner who can do multiple functions is very important. I cannot stress this enough as they can have such a strong impact on when product will arrive, at what cost and laying the supply chain foundation for future growth. Find a buyer who not only has a lot of contacts within your given industry but one who has built good working relationships with suppliers as well. I’ve always enjoyed working with assertive buyers who have a ‘touch’ with their suppliers.
Speaking of assertive, a buyer who takes the time to NEGOTIATE will save countless dollars that do add up over time. My rule of thumb is that EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE no matter what you are buying. There is one word that I have come to love and respect in the English language and that word is WHY. Make sure your prospective buyer/planner you are thinking about hiring knows how to use it.
